About Hearing Loss

Are You Experiencing Hearing Loss?

Do you sense that you hear but just don’t quite understand what those around you are saying? Does it seem like everybody is mumbling? Do you feel left out of conversations or struggling to process what is being said? If so, you may have hearing loss.

Hearing loss can occur rapidly or slowly. It can result from heredity, exposure to loud noise, trauma, infection or from aging. Our sense of hearing is one of the most important ways we have of feeling connected to our loved ones and the world around us. The gradual loss of hearing can cause people to slowly feel less included in activities around them. Relationships may become strained when we constantly ask others to repeat or interpret what is being said. Often, people with hearing loss are unable to hear high frequency speech sounds which may result in difficulty distinguishing between certain similar sounding words. As a result, children’s voices and women’s voices may be more difficult to understand.

Hearing aids can increase the loudness and clarity of speech, making it easier to understand in most listening environments. Hearing aids do not permanently restore hearing to normal hearing levels.

At Austin Hearing Aid Center, we understand that addressing hearing loss can affect people differently and we are committed to helping individuals and their family members overcome this loss through counseling, educational and free unlimited follow-up care.
